Simple ankle exercises improve balance in stroke survivors
NCT ID NCT07420608
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether special ankle exercises could improve balance and walking in people who had a stroke at least a year ago. 140 participants were split into two groups: one did the ankle training plus standard gait training, the other did standard gait training alone. After 12 weeks, the ankle training group showed better balance and movement. The goal is to reduce falls and improve daily life for stroke survivors.

What this could lead to
If this training works, it could offer a simple, non-drug way to improve balance and walking in people who have had a stroke.
What could go wrong
This is a completed trial, but results may not apply to all stroke survivors. The training requires supervision and may not help those with severe impairments.
