Cartoon video may help kidney patients understand surgery better than a leaflet

NCT ID NCT07651384

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested whether a short animated video helps kidney transplant patients and donors understand surgery better and feel less anxious than reading a leaflet. 130 adults were randomly assigned to watch the video or read the leaflet, both in addition to standard verbal counseling. Their knowledge and anxiety were measured right before and after the intervention.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that animated videos are a better way to prepare patients for kidney transplant surgery, improving their understanding and reducing anxiety.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study that only measured short-term effects. The results may not apply to all patients or other types of surgery.
