Anesthesia's hidden impact: new study probes immune changes
NCT ID NCT07268872
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at how three common anesthetics—propofol, sevoflurane, and ciprofol—affect the immune system in 80 healthy adults aged 20-30. Participants are randomly assigned to receive one anesthetic or no anesthesia (control group). Blood samples are taken before, during, and after anesthesia to analyze immune cell changes using advanced single-cell technology. The goal is to understand anesthesia's standalone effects on immunity, separate from surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- anesthetic agents (propofol, sevoflurane, ciprofol)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could reveal how common anesthetics influence the immune system, potentially guiding safer anesthesia choices in future medical procedures.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage observational study in healthy volunteers, not patients. Results may not apply to people with illnesses or those undergoing surgery, and the findings are exploratory.
