Scientists Fine-Tune Kids' anesthesia to protect developing brains

NCT ID NCT03384563

Summary

This study aims to measure precisely how a sedative drug called dexmedetomidine affects the amount of inhaled anesthesia (sevoflurane) needed to keep children asleep during surgery. Researchers will enroll 180 children between 1 month and 3 years old to test two different doses. The goal is to gather knowledge that could help doctors use lower doses of certain anesthetics, which some research suggests might be safer for a child's developing brain.
