New study aims to stop birth trauma: testing anesthesia to prevent PTSD after painful C-Sections

NCT ID NCT07334418

Summary

This study is testing which of two standard anesthesia approaches works better to prevent PTSD in women who experience severe pain during cesarean sections. Researchers will compare early general anesthesia (full unconsciousness) versus intravenous sedation for women whose pain doesn't respond to initial treatments. The pilot study will assess whether a larger trial is feasible by tracking consent rates, recovery quality, and PTSD symptoms up to 6 weeks after delivery.
