Nerve block may beat general anesthesia for minor leg amputations

NCT ID NCT07244627

First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study looks back at medical records of 300 adults who had a minor amputation (at or below the ankle) to see if the type of anesthesia affects complications and hospital stay. Early data suggests that using a nerve block instead of general anesthesia may lead to fewer breathing problems and shorter stays. The goal is to confirm these findings using a larger national dataset.
