Leukemia trial hopes to boost chemo with immune drug

NCT ID NCT04802161

First seen Dec 29, 2025 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 33 times

Summary

This phase 2 trial tests whether adding the drug pomalidomide to standard chemotherapy (daunorubicin and cytarabine liposome) helps people with a newly diagnosed, aggressive form of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) linked to prior bone marrow disorders. About 50 participants will receive either the chemo alone or chemo plus pomalidomide. The main goal is to see if the combination leads to more complete remissions.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

pomalidomide combined with liposomal daunorubicin and cytarabine

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a more effective treatment for a hard-to-treat type of acute myeloid leukemia, potentially improving remission rates.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase (Phase 2) trial with only 50 participants. Adding pomalidomide may increase side effects without improving outcomes, and results may not apply to all AML patients.
