New drug cocktail aims to shrink lung tumors before surgery
NCT ID NCT07586202
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jul 31, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This Phase 2 trial tests whether giving a combination of amivantamab and either lazertinib or chemotherapy before surgery can shrink or stop the growth of EGFR-mutated non-small cell lung cancer. About 68 people with stage II-IIIB lung cancer that can be surgically removed will participate. The main goal is to see how many patients have very few or no cancer cells left in the removed tumor tissue.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- amivantamab and lazertinib or chemotherapy (carboplatin and pemetrexed)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could offer a new treatment option before surgery to shrink or eliminate EGFR-mutated lung cancer, potentially improving long-term outcomes.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early Phase 2 trial with only 68 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Side effects from the drug combinations could be significant, and the treatment may not work as hoped.
