First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 27, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This study aimed to see if giving the drug amiodarone for a short time after heart surgery could prevent a common complication called atrial fibrillation, which affects up to 1 in 3 patients. The trial planned to include adults with normal heart rhythms before non-bypass heart surgery, excluding those with certain heart or liver conditions. However, the study was withdrawn before any participants were enrolled.
