Scientists search for clues in eye fluid to combat leading cause of blindness
NCT ID NCT03418220
Summary
This study aimed to better understand the role of inflammation in age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a major cause of vision loss. Researchers collected fluid from the eyes of 82 patients during routine cataract surgery to measure specific inflammatory markers. By comparing patients with different stages of AMD to those without the disease, they hoped to identify unique patterns that could guide the development of future treatments, particularly for the currently untreatable 'dry' form of AMD.
