New eye test could predict vision loss before it happens

NCT ID NCT02395757

Summary

This study tested a new type of detailed eye scan called microperimetry. The goal was to see if this scan could predict when a patient's age-related macular degeneration (AMD) would get worse, moving from an intermediate to a severe stage. It focused on 182 patients who already had severe AMD in one eye and were at high risk for their other eye to worsen. Researchers wanted to know if the scan could spot early warning signs before vision loss occurred, allowing for earlier monitoring or treatment.
