Gut check: can a mediterranean diet change the course of ALS?

NCT ID NCT07178067

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 39 times

Summary

This study looked at 44 people with ALS and healthy volunteers to see if gut bacteria chemicals (short-chain fatty acids) change as the disease progresses and whether a 6-month Mediterranean diet could improve those levels. Researchers measured these chemicals in blood samples over time. The goal was to understand the gut-brain connection in ALS, not to test a treatment.
