Saliva swab could revolutionize ALS diagnosis

NCT ID NCT05928416

First seen Apr 05, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study is testing whether a simple saliva sample can help diagnose Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Researchers are analyzing genetic material in saliva from 653 people—some with ALS and some healthy—to find a unique pattern that signals the disease. If successful, this could lead to a faster, less invasive way to diagnose ALS.
