Summary

This study aims to understand how a common genetic trait, called alpha thalassemia trait, affects blood vessels. Researchers are collecting saliva samples from healthy adults of African ancestry to identify people with this trait. The goal is to learn why this trait seems to protect against complications in other blood diseases, like sickle cell disease.
