Common supplement may shield breast cancer patients from painful radiation burns

NCT ID NCT07256119

Summary

This study is testing whether a dietary supplement called alpha lipoic acid can help prevent or reduce the severity of painful skin burns (radiation dermatitis) in breast cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy. Researchers will enroll 40 women receiving standard radiation treatment to see if the supplement, which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, can protect the skin. The goal is to improve comfort and allow patients to complete their cancer treatment without painful interruptions.
