Sugar substitute allulose tested for Calorie-Burning boost
NCT ID NCT06515340
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This completed study looked at how allulose, a low-calorie sweetener, affects how many calories the body burns, which fuels it uses, blood sugar, and hunger. Eleven healthy adults with normal weight took different doses (5, 10, or 20 grams) and were monitored for several hours. The goal was to see if allulose could increase calorie burning or help control appetite, which might be useful for weight management.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
allulose
What this could lead to
If results show allulose boosts calorie burning or controls appetite, it could point toward a natural sweetener that helps with weight management.
What could go wrong
This was a very small study (11 people) in healthy adults only. Findings may not apply to the general population, and any effects seen might be too small to matter in real life.
