Could a common gout pill help black Veterans' hearts?

NCT ID NCT05888233

Summary

This study is testing if Allopurinol, a medication usually used for gout, can improve heart function, exercise ability, and quality of life in African American Veterans with resistant high blood pressure. Researchers will give the drug for 8 weeks to 50 participants to see if it helps their hearts relax and fill with blood more effectively. The goal is to find a new way to manage heart risks in a group disproportionately affected by severe hypertension and heart failure.
