Alcohol shots tested to numb phantom limb pain

NCT ID NCT07443553

Summary

This study is testing whether injecting alcohol or capsaicin (the compound that makes chili peppers hot) near painful nerve endings can provide longer-lasting relief for phantom limb pain and stump pain after amputation. It will involve about 120 adults with leg amputations who still have significant pain despite trying other treatments like physical therapy and medications. Researchers will compare pain relief from the injections over several months to see if they work better than a placebo.
