Doctors study if intoxication skews stab wound care

NCT ID NCT07330349

Summary

This study aims to understand if alcohol, drugs, or pain medication affect how doctors evaluate patients with penetrating abdominal injuries (like stab or gunshot wounds) and decide on surgery. Researchers will observe over 360 patients at two major trauma centers in Colombia, comparing those who are under the influence to those who are not. The goal is to see if the standard method of repeated physical exams remains reliable for making safe treatment decisions, which could help avoid unnecessary surgeries and tests.
