New hope for alcohol addiction? popular Weight-Loss drug tested in combo therapy

NCT ID NCT07249554

Summary

This study aims to see if combining two medications, semaglutide (a drug also used for weight loss) and naltrexone (an existing treatment for alcohol use disorder), is safe and more effective than naltrexone alone. It will involve 45 adults already enrolled in a 4-week inpatient treatment program for alcohol use disorder. Participants will take the medications for two weeks while researchers measure cravings, health effects, and other behaviors.
