Major trial tests if aggressive stem cell transplant beats standard care for deadly protein disease

Summary
This study is for adults newly diagnosed with AL amyloidosis, a disease where abnormal proteins damage organs like the heart and kidneys. It aims to find out if adding a stem cell transplant to a standard chemotherapy regimen works better than the chemotherapy regimen alone. After initial chemo, 338 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either more chemo or a stem cell transplant, followed by a long-term maintenance drug.
