Mayo clinic tests AI to reduce painful side effects of cancer radiation

NCT ID NCT05979883

Summary

This study tested whether using artificial intelligence (AI) to plan radiation therapy could reduce side effects for people with head and neck cancer. Over 200 patients were randomly assigned to have their radiation planned either with the help of an AI tool or using the standard method. The main goal was to see if the AI-assisted plans led to fewer problems with swallowing and other side effects after treatment.
