AI steps in to help doctors communicate with anxious ICU families

NCT ID NCT06969196

Summary

This small pilot study tested whether artificial intelligence could help solve a common problem in intensive care units: giving families clear, daily written updates without overburdening busy doctors and nurses. Researchers had ICU clinicians review and edit AI-generated summaries about a patient's main problems and care plan before sending them to families. The goal was to see if this approach was practical and acceptable for both medical teams and families, especially in situations where communication has been challenging.
