Summary

This study tests an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm that helps decide whether a patient's referral to a specialist is urgent or can be handled in primary care. About 934 referrals from the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul will be randomly assigned to either the AI or the usual human review process. The goal is to see if the AI can make faster and more accurate decisions, reducing backlogs and getting high-risk patients seen sooner.
