AI could replace lab tests for tiny colon polyps, major trial shows

NCT ID NCT06062095

First seen Apr 28, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study tests whether an artificial intelligence (AI) system can help doctors accurately diagnose colon polyps during a colonoscopy, without needing to send them to a lab. Over 1,700 adults having a routine colonoscopy will be randomly assigned to have their polyps assessed by the AI or by the doctor's usual visual inspection. The goal is to see if AI can safely guide decisions on which polyps to remove and how often to repeat the colonoscopy, potentially saving time and money.
