AI boosts colonoscopy accuracy in massive VA study

NCT ID NCT05888623

First seen Oct 01, 2025 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 33 times

Summary

This study tested whether artificial intelligence (AI) can help doctors spot precancerous polyps during colonoscopy. Over 334,000 veterans participated across multiple VA medical centers. Some centers used AI devices during the procedure, while others did not. The goal was to see if AI improves detection rates for adenomas, serrated lesions, and colorectal cancer, while also checking for any downsides like longer procedure times or unnecessary biopsies.
