AI heart patch trial aims to prevent strokes in rural seniors

NCT ID NCT06842147

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study is testing whether a wearable, AI-enhanced heart monitor worn for 7 days can find more cases of atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat that raises stroke risk) than usual care in people aged 60 and older living in rural China. About 15,360 participants from 128 village clinics will be randomly assigned to either the AI patch or standard ECG checks. The goal is to see if better detection leads to fewer deaths, strokes, and hospitalizations over three years.
