AI takes on kidney biopsies: could it Out-Diagnose doctors?

NCT ID NCT07330362

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study is testing an artificial intelligence model that reads kidney biopsy images to diagnose chronic kidney disease. Researchers will compare the AI's results to the standard diagnosis made by pathologists. About 2,900 patients with chronic glomerulonephritis will participate. The goal is to see how accurate the AI is at identifying the disease.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
artificial intelligence diagnostic model
What this could lead to
If successful, this AI could help doctors diagnose kidney disease faster and more consistently from biopsy images.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage diagnostic study, not a treatment. The AI may not be accurate enough to replace pathologists, and results may not apply to all patients.
