Walk a mile in their shoes: aging suit boosts caregiver empathy
NCT ID NCT07280689
First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 02, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This study tested whether wearing a special suit that mimics the physical challenges of aging (like stiff joints and blurry vision) could help healthcare workers better understand their elderly patients. 82 nurses, therapists, and other staff from four nursing homes either attended a class on aging or did the class plus a session in the aging suit. Those who wore the suit showed a significant increase in empathy scores, suggesting that this hands-on experience can lead to more compassionate care for older adults.
