Scientists probe hidden cause of heart risk in dialysis
NCT ID NCT02818465
Summary
This study aimed to understand why patients on long-term dialysis often develop severe blood vessel damage and heart problems. Researchers followed 100 dialysis patients to see if certain waste products in the body (AGEs) and their receptor (RAGE) play a key role in causing blood vessel calcification. They measured these substances in the blood and skin and tracked vessel health over time to learn more about the disease process.
