Exercise showdown: interval vs. continuous training for stubborn high blood pressure
NCT ID NCT05563077
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two types of aerobic exercise—interval training and continuous training—over 4 months in 72 adults with resistant hypertension. The goal is to see which type better lowers 24-hour blood pressure and improves related health markers. Participants are randomly assigned to one of the exercise groups or a usual-care control group.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
aerobic exercise training (moderate-intensity interval training or moderate-intensity continuous training)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward an effective exercise program to help control blood pressure in people with resistant hypertension.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 72 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Exercise may not lower blood pressure enough to replace medication.
