New MRI scans could transform care for preterm babies with brain bleeds
NCT ID NCT07412886
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study will use advanced MRI scans to better understand brain injury in premature babies who have bleeding in the brain's fluid spaces. About 450 babies in England suffer from severe bleeds each year, which can lead to fluid buildup and long-term disability. Researchers will compare standard treatment (draining fluid) with a new operation that washes out the blood, and see if these MRI techniques can predict the child's future needs. The goal is to improve treatment and outcomes for these vulnerable infants.
