Can a simple document cut forced psychiatric holds by 25%?

NCT ID NCT07284368

Summary

This study is testing whether 'Advance Choice Documents' can help people with serious mental illness avoid forced hospitalizations and get better care. These documents let people state their treatment preferences when they are well, so their wishes are known during a crisis. Researchers are working with 374 people who have been involuntarily hospitalized before to see if using these plans reduces future forced admissions and improves their experience with the mental health system.
