First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tests whether Advance Choice Documents (ACDs)—written statements of mental health care preferences made when a person is well—can reduce compulsory admissions under the Mental Health Act. Researchers at King's College London will work with 374 service users, carers, and staff across South London and Maudsley services to understand how to implement ACDs effectively. The goal is to give people more control over their care and potentially cut forced hospitalizations by 25%.
