New study tests brain training plus parenting for ADHD relief

NCT ID NCT05492422

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether combining two proven treatments—computer-based working memory training and parenting classes—can improve ADHD symptoms in children ages 8-12. Researchers will enroll 200 kids with ADHD and compare the effects of doing the computer training first, then parenting classes, versus other sequences. The goal is to see if this order boosts benefits for attention, behavior, and family stress.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Central Executive Training (computer-based working memory training) and Behavioral Parent Training (parenting classes)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a non-drug way to improve ADHD symptoms and family functioning for school-aged children.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage study with only 200 participants, so results may not apply to all children. The training is time-intensive and may not work for everyone.
