First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study will compare two behavioral programs for children aged 9-12 with ADHD: the OutSMARTers group program and individual counseling. About 100 children will be randomly assigned to one of the programs or a short waitlist. Researchers will measure changes in behavior, emotional regulation, and social skills using parent, teacher, and child reports.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
The OutSMARTers Program (behavioral skills training group) and The Kid Counseling Program (individual counseling)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide an effective non-drug option to help children with ADHD manage emotions, social skills, and daily challenges.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 100 participants, and results may not apply to all children with ADHD. The interventions are behavioral, so benefits may vary.
