New program aims to stop alcohol relapse after Life-Saving liver transplants

NCT ID NCT05322226

Summary

This study is testing whether a special addiction support program helps people who need a liver transplant due to alcohol-related disease stay alcohol-free after their surgery. It involves 64 patients who will receive regular check-ins with an addiction specialist and blood/urine tests to monitor for alcohol use for one year after their transplant. The goal is to see if this targeted support lowers the rate of patients returning to heavy drinking, which can damage the new liver.
