Could a simple blood test spare lung cancer patients from chemo?
NCT ID NCT06924710
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether people with early-stage lung cancer (stage IA2 to II) who have no detectable cancer DNA in their blood after surgery can safely skip additional treatments like chemotherapy. Instead, they would be closely monitored with regular blood tests and scans. The trial will compare this 'adaptive therapy' approach to standard care to see if it leads to similar survival rates while reducing side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
standard therapy (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or targeted therapy)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that some early-stage lung cancer patients can safely avoid chemotherapy and its side effects by relying on close monitoring.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study (Phase NA) with only 286 participants. The approach may not be safe for all patients, and there is a risk that cancer could return without treatment.
