Brain implant learns to help Parkinson's patients walk
NCT ID NCT07424508
Summary
This study is testing a new 'adaptive' deep brain stimulation (DBS) system designed to improve walking and balance in people with Parkinson's disease. The 'smart' device, already implanted in six participants, senses when a person starts to walk and automatically switches to settings optimized for gait, then switches back for other symptoms. Researchers aim to see if this automatic adjustment works better than standard, unchanging stimulation for improving daily movement.
