Acupuncture needles may help taper antidepressants safely
NCT ID NCT07390981
First seen Feb 05, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study tests whether placing small needles under the skin (intradermal acupuncture) can help adults with major depression reduce or stop their antidepressant medication (SSRIs) with fewer side effects. About 114 participants who are already planning to lower their dose will be split into three groups: one that tapers medication alone, one that gets fake acupuncture, and one that gets real acupuncture. The goal is to see if acupuncture makes it easier to lower the dose and manage withdrawal symptoms.
