Needles vs. nausea: ancient technique tested for modern surgery recovery
NCT ID NCT07293026
Summary
This study tested whether adding a specific type of abdominal acupuncture to standard post-surgery care could help women recover their normal gut function faster after a common gynecologic procedure. It involved 80 women who had laparoscopic hysterectomies, with half receiving the acupuncture treatment for five days starting just hours after surgery. Researchers measured how quickly patients passed gas, had bowel movements, and reported less pain and nausea to see if the acupuncture made a meaningful difference in their recovery experience.
