First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether acupuncture can safely reduce hot flashes in women with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer who are on hormone therapy. Sixty patients will receive either real or sham acupuncture three times a week for eight weeks, then be followed for 16 more weeks. Researchers will also use brain scans to see how acupuncture might work.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
acupuncture
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a safe, non-drug option to reduce hot flashes for breast cancer patients on hormone therapy.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 60 participants, and the sham acupuncture group may also show benefits, making it hard to prove real effects.
