Tiny work breaks could get drivers off their seats

NCT ID NCT06880211

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether short 'activity snippets' — simple physical exercises integrated into the workday — could help bus and tram drivers sit less and move more. Seventy drivers from a German transit company were split into two groups: one received standard physical activity advice, the other got a toolbox of activity snippets. Their movement was tracked for a week at several time points. The goal was to see if these mini-breaks could make a real difference in a very sedentary job.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

activity snippets (short physical activity breaks integrated into work routine)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple way for sedentary workers to be more active during the workday, potentially improving health without special equipment.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed trial with only 70 participants, all from one company. The effect may be small or not apply to other jobs or settings.
