Stroke rehab hack: watch before you walk

NCT ID NCT06501014

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested whether watching short exercise videos before doing the exercises helps stroke survivors recover better. Thirty chronic stroke patients were split into two groups: one did action observation therapy plus conventional rehab, the other did conventional rehab alone. Researchers measured walking distance, balance, and leg movement to see if the video-watching group improved more.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

action observation therapy (watching exercise videos before performing the exercises)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple, low-cost addition to stroke rehabilitation that helps improve walking, balance, and motor function.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed trial with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to all stroke patients. The therapy is an add-on, not a standalone treatment, and benefits may be modest.
