ACL injuries may slow your brain, not just your knee

NCT ID NCT07163468

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study looked at how ACL injuries impact not just the knee, but also brain activity, reaction speed, and mental readiness to return to sports. Researchers tested 60 male athletes using brain scans, computer reaction tests, and questionnaires. They found that athletes who had multiple ACL surgeries had more trouble with attention, slower reactions, and greater fear of movement. The results suggest that recovery from ACL injury involves the brain and emotions too, not just the knee.
