Scientists probe tonsils for clues to COVID-19 infection differences

NCT ID NCT04640610

Summary

This study aimed to understand how the virus that causes COVID-19 might infect the tonsils and adenoids. Researchers planned to measure two key proteins (ACE2 and TMPRSS2) in tissue samples removed from children and adults during routine surgeries. The goal was to see if differences in these proteins could explain why children often have milder COVID-19 symptoms than adults.
