New hope for rare ovarian cancers: drug combo trial launches
NCT ID NCT05872204
First seen May 07, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 6 times
Summary
This phase 2 trial is testing two drugs, abemaciclib and letrozole, in 100 people with rare estrogen receptor-positive ovarian cancers (low grade serous carcinoma or granulosa cell tumors). The goal is to see if the combination can shrink tumors and control the disease. Participants take both pills daily, and the study will measure how many respond and for how long.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
abemaciclib (Verzenios) and letrozole (Femara)
What this could lead to
If successful, this combination could offer a new treatment option for rare ovarian cancers that are hard to treat, potentially shrinking tumors and delaying progression.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 2 trial with only 100 participants, so results are preliminary. The drugs may cause side effects like fatigue or low blood cell counts, and not all patients may respond.
Conditions
The condition(s) this trial relates to.
As listed by the trial registrant
