Can a malaria drug help wipe out remaining breast cancer?

NCT ID NCT04523857

First seen May 09, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether two pills—abemaciclib and hydroxychloroquine—can find and destroy leftover breast cancer cells hiding in the bone marrow. About 66 people with early-stage breast cancer who are at high risk of recurrence will take these drugs for six months. The goal is to see if the combination can clear these hidden cells and reduce the chance of cancer coming back.
