Immune-Calming drug shows promise for stubborn transplant complication

NCT ID NCT01954979

First seen May 31, 2026 · Last updated Jun 09, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study tested the drug abatacept in 56 people who had chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) that did not get better with standard steroid treatment. cGVHD happens when donor immune cells attack the patient's own body after a stem cell or bone marrow transplant. The goal was to see if abatacept, which calms the immune system, is safe and can help control the disease. Participants received one of two doses, and researchers monitored side effects and how well the disease responded.
