New PET tracer aims to spot scarring in organs without a needle

NCT ID NCT07459205

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study will test a new imaging agent called 68Ga-1A12, which is used in a PET scan to detect fibrosis (scarring) in organs like the lungs. The goal is to see if this scan can diagnose fibrosis earlier and more accurately than current methods, which often require invasive biopsies. The study plans to enroll 50 adults with suspected or confirmed fibrosis-related disease.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

68Ga-1A12 (a radioactive tracer for PET imaging)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could provide a non-invasive way to detect and monitor fibrosis earlier and more accurately than current methods.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study (50 participants) focused on diagnostic accuracy, not treatment. The tracer may not prove reliable enough for widespread use.
